To:  All PACT participants From: Alpharetta Dept. of Public SafetyDate: 7/24/08

Subject: Thefts from cars

We have had a number of entering-auto cases in recent days, eight of which occurred today in the following areas: Coventry, Beacon Hill, Meridian Point, Wynridge and Wills Commons.  Two cars were also broken into outside the Chuck E. Cheese’s restaurant July 19.

Thieves are breaking car windows and cutting convertible tops to steal GPS devices, laptops, purses and wallets, among other items. They are targeting vehicles with visible valuables and vehicles with visible GPS holders fastened to the inside of windshields, whether the devices are in the holders or not.

Please continue to be diligent about tucking away electronic devices in your vehicles. It is best to hide holders as well, as they are an indication such devices are inside the vehicle.

The damage caused to vehicles often costs more to fix than replacing the stolen devices.

Important info related to recent notice:

There were three cars with locks punched in the YMCA parking lot that were discovered after the green Expedition was seen leaving the area.

Thank you,

PACT  Notice

To:  All PACT participants From: Ofc. J. HowardDate: 8/5/08

Subject: Entering Autos/ susp. vehicle

On August 4, 2008 at around 1836 hours, a patrol officer was dispatched to the YMCA about a caller following a green Ford Expedition that might be occupied by entering auto perpetrators.

The caller reportedly witnessed three black men acting strangely in the parking lot. He noticed the rear driver-side passenger door of a vehicle was wide open and a black male was taking cover behind the door.

“The caller stated he thought that was a little suspicious and decided to drive back around one more time to take a good look at him. The caller stated as he was trying to turn his vehicle around he noticed the suspects noticed him and took off really fast toward the exit,” according to Lt. S.Woods, CID.

The dispatcher advised the green Ford Expedition did not have a tag. The patrol unit arrived to the area within couple of minutes but could not locate the vehicle.

Please watch for suspicious behavior in parking lots. The above vehicle may or may not be associated with criminal activity.

Officer Burger will announce my replacement P.A.C.T. Officer as soon as possible

The board is excited to introduce a new community program to the Wedgewood Subdivision.  The program is called P.A.C.T.  This is a not just a new name for an old Neighbor Watch program.  P.A.C.T is unique in several ways.  It brings together two vital facets of every successful program, Accountability and Ownership.  In an overview of the program, an Alpharetta City Police Officer is assigned to the Wedgewood Community.  The officer will attend board meeting and other community gatherings to meet the residents personally.  We (residents) are encouraged to contact the officer assigned to Wedgwood personally if we have any community issues that involve the police.  He will help to solve the issues and concern or direct us to the best resource.  Our assigned P.A.C.T officer will also perform meetings to residents on Crime Prevention and neighborhood watch.  The office assigned to Wedgewood Community is also the director for the whole P.A.C.T. program
